The Uvero Alto Waves: Located on the northern stretch of Punta Cana, Uvero Alto is known for having a rougher, more active ocean than the calm, turquoise waters of Bavaro Beach. If you love floating in a perfectly still, wave-free ocean, the surf here might be a bit too intense for you.
Drive Time from the Airport: Expect about a 45-minute drive from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). It’s not a dealbreaker, but it is a longer trek than resorts in the main hotel zone.
The Preferred Club Split: While non-Preferred Club guests still get an amazing experience, the absolute best beachfront views, private lounges, and dedicated pool areas are reserved for Preferred Club members, which can sometimes make the resort feel slightly tiered. That’s why I recommend booking into the Preferred Club. The oceanfront swim up pool is terrific.

Yes, the beach is swimmable, but with a caveat. The sand is beautiful and golden, and the beach is wide and great for walking. However, because it faces the open Atlantic on the northern coast, the water tends to have stronger waves and undertows compared to the Caribbean-facing side of the island. Strong swimmers will love it, but casual floaters may prefer staying by the massive resort pools.
