I really enjoyed my four night stay at this resort. Things I liked:
The dining was very good. The French restaurant was my favorite. You need reservations for the French, Italian, and Asian restaurants. I like that you have the choice of a sit down lunch or a quick bite at the Jerk Hut or grill. Servers will also bring food to your chair by the pool.
The evening entertainment was good. One night, both sides of the resort had really good bands. The Zilara Aquatic show was a great version of the typical circus show. I like we could watch from our balcony.
We had the most basic room and it was still very comfortable.
The activities team played fun games by the pool. They seemed to pick one side or the other so some days were more active on the Zilara side. Others were more active on the Ziva side.
Things you may not like:
The beach - The beaches are small cove beaches. The Hyatt Ziva beach is almost enclosed by rocks. The calm waters this creates are good for novice swimmers, but it’s not the long Seven Mile beach of white sand you’ll find in Negril.
Chair hogs - It’s hard to get a chair in the shade. You can pay extra to book a day bed to guarantee a shaded spot, but it’s still annoying. We found a chair to put our stuff and then hung out in the swim up pool.
Some of the restaurants have mostly open air seating. The patios do have fans, but it’s can still get a little steamy if you plan on visiting during the summer.
The Zilara side really doesn’t have enough restaurants for a long visit if you like variety. You have two restaurants plus the grill. All three are mostly outdoor seating.
If you are an adult, how do you decide where to stay?
If you want to make sure there’s no crying baby next door, then you’ll want to book a Hyatt Zilara room.
If you enjoy Club Level, you’ll want to book on the Ziva side. The Zilara side does not have a Club Level.
Overall, I think this is a great choice for a four or five night stay. You don’t have the 90 minute drive to Ocho Rios or Negril. The beach is small, but the water color is incredible. The service and food are very good.
If you like to swim out to a pool, you’ll want to book on the Zilara side. Some of the swim out suites on this side connect to the upper pool.
